Golf outing at L’il Wick at Trilogy® at Wickenburg Ranch

I want to give a quick shout-out to Shea Homes and BlueStar for sponsoring our Desert Showcase golf event yesterday at Trilogy at Wickenburg Ranch. We played L’il Wick and had a fantastic time! It’s a fun & relaxing golf environment, like nothing I’ve ever experienced. I’m a fairly amateur golfer, so I found it to be relatively challenging, but not too stressful…and the bentgrass greens are fast! There are 3 tee boxes per hole, so it plays to different levels of experience. Anyone from a professional to a beginner player should play this course…you will love it!

Before we set out to conquer the 9-hole, par 3 course, we enjoyed Chef Erik’s culinary delights at The Watering Hole. If you haven’t already, try the Wickenburger….topped with an egg! It is delicious…but so is everything on the menu!

The official grand opening of L’il Wick is tomorrow, Saturday, January 28th from 2:00 to 6:00. If you haven’t been out to the course yet, take advantage tomorrow! Free food & golf throughout the event! I hope you can make it. If so, we’ll see you there!

Here are the photos from our event:

The scenery can’t get any more gorgeous than that! The course itself is in pristine condition. Actually, both golf courses are in perfect shape, ready for your enjoyment. They’re screaming, “Play me!” And that’s what I hope to do tomorrow, if it’s not too busy. What’s nice about L’il Wick is that the sports shop will provide clubs for you, if you don’t have your own. But you really only need 3 clubs to play the course. Also, there you can rent a push cart for your golf bag, or simply bring your own. Talk about convenient!

Hey, while you’re in the area, stop by our open house in Trilogy® at Wickenburg Ranch tomorrow from 12:00 to 3:00. We’ll be at 3270 Big Sky Drive! We’d love to meet you. Otherwise, we’ll see you at L’il Wick!

Peoria, AZ is 2nd Hottest Real Estate Market!

Peoria, AZ is 2nd Hottest Real Estate Market!

A region in north Peoria has the second hottest housing market in the Valley, just behind and ahead of the Phoenix-metro area’s two most well-known luxury communities.

Home buyers in the 85383 ZIP code in north Peoria recorded a combined $766 million in total sales last year, according to Street Scout Home Values, an annual analysis of metro Phoenix’s housing market done with the Information Market.

In comparison, buyers in north Scottsdale spent $983 million in total sales value, while buyers in Paradise Valley spent $693 million.

Three other factors stand out in the north Peoria housing boom:

Home sales increased by 22.1 percent in 2015 compared with sales in 2014. The median home price was $317,000, less than half of the median price in north Scottsdale at $675,000 and less than a third of the median price in Paradise Valley at nearly $1.28 million. The median price in north Peoria rose 2.4 percent from 2014 to 2015. Although north Peoria led, home sales in three other West Valley ZIP codes cracked the Valley’s hottest 20 ZIP codes in total sales value.

Buyers in the 85338 ZIP code in the Estrella area of Goodyear, where the median home price was $214,000, recorded a combined $359 million in sales value. That ranked 13th highest across metropolitan Phoenix.
Buyers in 85308 in north Glendale, where the median price was $241,000, notched a total of $339 million in sales. That ranked 16th. Buyers in 85395 in the PebbleCreek area of Goodyear, where the median price was $307,000, reached a combined $311 million in sales. That was 20th. In north Peoria, a driving force to the booming home market is high-end attractions, such as master-planned communities, mountain views and gated neighborhoods, at a variety of price points, said Mark Hammons, vice president and general manager of Vistancia, a master-planned development in the region.

“It just goes to show you that Peoria — the north part of the city — is on the map,” Hammons said. “It’s a great place to live. Peoria provides a great quality of life.”

Our discovery at Castle Hot Springs

I recently learned that the historic Castle Hot Springs Resort had been purchased and permits were underway for renovation. A Phoenix investment group called CHS3 Holdings LLC bought the property at an auction for $1.95 million in February 2014…the opening bid was $500,000. The investors of CHS3 Holdings LLC are actually Mike Watts and brothers Chris & Howard Nute. Chris & Howard Nute are the owners of Underground Safety Equipment. And for those of you who have no idea what Castle Hot Springs is, it opened in 1896 in a remote area of Morristown, AZ. It’s a 210-acre resort near Lake Pleasant which once attracted prominent U.S. families, including the Roosevelts, the Vanderbilts, the Carnegies, the Wrigleys, and the Astors. Long before he became president, John F. Kennedy spent time at Castle Hot Springs recovering from injuries he sustained in World War II. It boasts the kind of rugged beauty that can’t be found at urban resorts.

According to www.ArizonaHighways.com, it’s an oasis — a canola-yellow mansion in the mountains, surrounded by natural hot springs, fruit trees and hiking trails. But it sits at the end of a rough, rocky road that Arizona’s official historian calls “not really passable, and not even jackass-able” after heavy rainfall. It endured fires and floods after it opened, and after a 1976 blaze, it closed to the public. For the next 40 years it sat empty, visited only by a caretaker and potential investors whose grand plans for the property fizzled. The new owners hope their visions for a spa-resort retreat will put it back on the map.

Although I’ve lived in Arizona for over 22 years, I have never actually taken the journey to the resort. Anxious to see the progress of the renovations, I loaded up my 11 year-old Golden Retriever, Murphy, into my dependable Acura MDX and off we went. Here’s Murphy:

Murphy & I actually really enjoyed the drive, although there were some parts of the road that were quite primitive. It is definitely not a trip you want to take after a rainy day, because at least 3 miles of the dirt road are in a river bed. From my house in NW Peoria, it took about an hour to get there, but it was well worth the drive. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the renovations were well underway. A couple of Cemex trucks were pouring concrete and I believe a new caretaker house was being constructed, amongst other projects that were taking place. I wasn’t able to get past the gates to get into the resort, but here are the photos I took:

On my way home, I saw some beautiful views of Lake Pleasant that I don’t usually see. I’m an enthusiastic boat owner and spend many days with family & friends on Lake Pleasant, enjoying the refreshing water and enjoying the beauty of the topography. I typically see the lake from the south side, where the dam is. So seeing it from the north side for a change really helped me appreciate its breathtaking scenery and its vast size. Here are the photos:

Castle Hot Springs Resort’s biggest challenge is going to be how to get there. It’s definitely in the middle of the rustic Arizona desert. But I’m excited to watch it’s growth and development. Murphy & I will definitely take some more journeys back to see it progress. Tucked away under the Bradshaw Mountains, the scenery is absolutely gorgeous!

For more information about the resort, take a look at the Arizona Highways article I mentioned. Here’s the link Arizona Highways . I hope someday I’ll be able to take a staycation there and soak in the hot springs. That would be amazing!

Who knew this about jury duty in Arizona?

I sure didn’t, until Ron came across these articles. See, I was summoned for jury duty. I received my jury summons in the mail a few weeks ago & taped the card to the refrigerator, so I wouldn’t lose it. It advised me to call after 5:00 the business day before my appearance. For me, that was after 5:00 on Friday, August 26, 2016. When I called on Friday, the recording told me that my group number needed to call back on Monday at 10:15, for a possible appearance at 12:30 that day. I called at 10:15 this morning and was told by the recording that my group was released from having to appear, that I fulfilled my jury duty, and that I wouldn’t be summoned for another jury duty within the next 18 months. However, since Friday, I had been contemplating about not showing up for jury duty and never really considered the consequences if I didn’t. And, apparently, I’m not the only one who thought about not showing up for jury duty…this article in the Phoenix New Times states that 66% of citizens fail to appear for jury duty in Maricopa County!

ABC15.com actually did a story back in 2013 on cracking down on those who skip jury duty. If you fail to appear for jury duty, you could be fined $500 and still be required to fulfill jury duty! Yikes! But that’s not very expensive, compared to other states like Massachusetts. According to this article by LegalZoom, jury dodgers in Massachusetts are fined $2,000! But in New York, the fine is $250. All I can say is I’m glad I didn’t throw that jury summons in the trash. It turns out I didn’t have to serve anyway.
